The Group

The Women’s Discussion group has been active for over 10 years and has proved to be a very friendly, popular and successful group. It is currently being organised by seven members, rather than just one leader. The Discussion group meet on the 2^nd and 4^th Thursdays each month during the u3a term with many members, on their own or with a partner, leading sessions on a wide range of topics, and we are keen to encourage as many members as possible to do so. Topics have ranged from ‘serious’ topics such as “What stops us developing and practising good health habits?” and “What does commitment mean to you?” to more light hearted ones such as “What makes you happy or smile?” and “Advertising”. There have also been sessions like “Desert Islands discs where we each talked about a favourite book, film and piece of music” and ”Room 101 where we thought about horrible things we would like to dispose of”.

We do have a few ground rules, the main one being that we respect each other’s opinions and differences. We don’t discuss one another’s contribution outside the group and we don’t discuss domestic matters unless they serve to illustrate a point.

Our meetings are held in the hall at the United Reform Church, where we serve tea, coffee and biscuits for a small charge at the end of the meeting for anyone who wants to stay for an informal chat. There are also regular lunches at a variety of venues which any members of the WDG are welcome to come to.
